This week, we wrapped up project 3 for Interaction design for deployment on Friday at the Columbia Museum of Art's Arts and Draughts Event. This was a very different project than anything I have done so far in my Graphic Design classes as not only was it working out in the real world with a client, but we worked as a team of the entire class to create and divide up different components of the same project. Most of the time, design is very individual in my classes, and often, everyone has their own ideas and styles, so I was wondering at first how this project would go in terms of looking cohesive with so many different design styles. It was also a huge difference in the fact that we had to go and meet with a client who didn't know much about AR and what that entails, unlike the project briefs we usually get from professors who know all the projects and what goes into creating each project. Learning how to interact with a client in terms of what they want to get out of your work for them, troubleshooting, and communicating with a client was all new to me in this project and gave me really good experience when I go into the real world as a designer. It was really interesting how the actual design part of this project was the simplest and probably took the least amount of time compared to how much time we had to meet as a class and as teams to discuss how we wanted the user to experience this and how we were going to do that in ways that we weren't creating anything but thinking through these ideas of user experience and how the scavenger hunt was going to flow. I had some minimal experience with Adobe Aero before this project and used that as a jumping-off point when I was working on ideation for the second piece my group was doing, which I was assigned. Being that it was a modern sculpture and that it was outside in the plaza, I felt that it got overlooked and probably not enjoyed as much by visitors because of its location and the fact that modern art can sometimes be seen as boring to some. With this in mind, I wanted to create something fun and colorful using some of that playful movement of the piece and the fun, bright colors. Overall, I wanted to create something that would spark a little joy in the user and get that fun and playful interaction across. A lot I feel like I learned in this project is how to communicate when working as a team and collaborating with groups, as well as how to work with a client and effectively communicate with them to figure out all the smaller details of the project and what they want from you.
