I chose this video because I felt that it fit well with what we have been working on with our design manifestos as Sophia Yeshi in this tutorial talks about creating emotional and gripping typographic design. She starts off the video speaking about what design means to her, how it gives her a voice and a way to create impact as well as empowering and inspiring messages. She then gives kind of a backstory of how she discovered design as a young woman and how that affects her work. I felt like a lot of the reasons she chose design were very similar to what I wrote about in my own design manifesto about how I believe that design can have a profound impact and can work as a way of activism for what you believe in as well as inspire others. She also has a lot of this fun humor in her tutorial talking about how she found design as a kid playing Neo pets which in a similar realm of growing up in this kind of early 2000s early technology access, much of my experience using a computer and very simple design came from playing Webkinz and cool math games as well. Some of this tutorial was very basic in going over the basics of graphic design such as contrast and color palette was stuff I knew already. She does talk about choosing a color palette that reflects you and your brand how she went about choosing those colors for her brand and how they represent her in some way. I am big on having very staple color palettes that I work with and found myself struggling to narrow down choosing one to use in my manifesto poster that represented me as a designer. Seeing her process of creating a design was very interesting as there were some things that I did too when designing like pulling color palettes and inspiration into my working file and other things I didn't know about like looking at a website fontsinuse.com that tells you the fonts of different designs like album covers and such as well as she recommended using Behance for finding fonts both of which I have never used before. I think that playing more with font, color palettes, and textures will be a good place for me to start when I am revising my manifesto poster and creating my social media post this weekend.
